holiday jottings 1 - thanksgiving

Job 28:28 NIV

28 And he said to the human race,
"The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom,
and to shun evil is understanding."

i had the privilege to have lunch with dad and his friend this afternoon. witnessed wisdom lived out daily by this man of faith, who delights in the Lord. Also, to give thanks for their amazing brotherhood for the past 42 years!

cry baby

I Will Run To You (Hillsong United)

Your eye is on the sparrow
And Your hand, it comforts me
From the ends of the Earth to the depth of my heart
Let Your mercy and strength be seen

You call me to Your purpose
As angels understand
For Your glory, may You draw all men
As Your love and grace demand

And I will run to You
To Your words of truth
Not by might, not by power
But by the spirit of God
Yes I will run the race
'Till I see Your face
Oh let me live in the glory of Your grace

in awe

Job 37

New International Version (NIV)
37 “At this my heart pounds
    and leaps from its place.
2 Listen! Listen to the roar of his voice,
to the rumbling that comes from his mouth.
3 He unleashes his lightning beneath the whole heaven
and sends it to the ends of the earth.
4 After that comes the sound of his roar;
he thunders with his majestic voice.
When his voice resounds,
    he holds nothing back.
5 God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways;
he does great things beyond our understanding.
6 He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’
and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’
7 So that everyone he has made may know his work,
he stops all people from their labor.[a]
8 The animals take cover;
    they remain in their dens.
9 The tempest comes out from its chamber,
the cold from the driving winds.
10 The breath of God produces ice,
and the broad waters become frozen.
11 He loads the clouds with moisture;
he scatters his lightning through them.
12 At his direction they swirl around
over the face of the whole earth
to do whatever he commands them.
13 He brings the clouds to punish people,
or to water his earth and show his love.
14 “Listen to this, Job;
    stop and consider God’s wonders.
15 Do you know how God controls the clouds
    and makes his lightning flash?
16 Do you know how the clouds hang poised,
those wonders of him who has perfect knowledge?
17 You who swelter in your clothes
when the land lies hushed under the south wind,
18 can you join him in spreading out the skies,
hard as a mirror of cast bronze?
19 “Tell us what we should say to him;
we cannot draw up our case because of our darkness.
20 Should he be told that I want to speak?
Would anyone ask to be swallowed up?
21 Now no one can look at the sun,
bright as it is in the skies
after the wind has swept them clean.
22 Out of the north he comes in golden splendor;
    God comes in awesome majesty.
23 The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power;
in his justice and great righteousness, he does not oppress.
24 Therefore, people revere him,
for does he not have regard for all the wise in heart?[b]”

Justification by Faith

I am not saved by believing— I simply realize I am saved by believing. And it is not repentance that saves me— repentance is only the sign that I realize what God has done through Christ Jesus. The danger here is putting the emphasis on the effect, instead of on the cause. Is it my obedience, consecration, and dedication that make me right with God? It is never that! I am made right with God because, prior to all of that, Christ died. When I turn to God and by belief accept what God reveals, the miraculous atonement by the Cross of Christ instantly places me into a right relationship with God. And as a result of the supernatural miracle of God’s grace I stand justified, not because I am sorry for my sin, or because I have repented, but because of what Jesus has done. The Spirit of God brings justification with a shattering, radiant light, and I know that I am saved, even though I don’t know how it was accomplished.
The salvation that comes from God is not based on human logic, but on the sacrificial death of Jesus. We can be born again solely because of the atonement of our Lord. Sinful men and women can be changed into new creations, not through their repentance or their belief, but through the wonderful work of God in Christ Jesus which preceded all of our experience (see 2 Corinthians 5:17-19). The unconquerable safety of justification and sanctification is God Himself. We do not have to accomplish these things ourselves— they have been accomplished through the atonement of the Cross of Christ. The supernatural becomes natural to us through the miracle of God, and there is the realization of what Jesus Christ has already done— “It is finished!” (John 19:30).

Unusual Suspects- #1 THE CAN MAN

While Subi Church continues to explore the unusual suspects of the bible in the recent weeks - the unsung heroes/ seemingly negligible characters, I've come across a few unusual suspects in the past weeks too.

UNUSUAL SUSPECT #1 - The Can Man.
Once upon a time i ran out of house, across the road, down the hill, across another road and boarded the bus to destination: PRAC. Being the lucky number 1 passenger, the only passenger boarding from the first bus stop, i found my way to my favourite bus seat by the door and made myself comfortable. However, that fine day, my seat was not TOO comfortable because someone left an empty Mother drink can on the ground where my seat was. It rattled and rolled around my feet as i wished with all my heart that the bus would make a right turn so that the can would roll somewhere far away from me. And it did.. the bus driver made a right turn and the can made its way into the middle strip of walkway, down the steps and rattled in the middle of the empty bus. LEG ROOM! *silent celebration in my mind*
At this point, passenger number 2 had boarded and settled into the front row seat. Upon hearing the rattling noise of the empty drink can, he turned around, eyes scanning the bus for the rolling can. As he looked at the can, a feeling of guilt arose in me for allowing that can to roll around the bus, posing a major slip/trip hazard to future unsuspecting passengers. The man promptly left his seat, walked to the middle of the bus, picked up the can and walked back to his seat.
The bus arrived at it's third stop where the 3rd-30th passenger boarded, all of them unaware that their days have been saved by... THE CAN MAN.

What is SIN?

Since last week for a month or so, our church has started a new series on: The Unusual Suspects - looking at characters of the bible that we would never have paid much attention to, and learning from them and their godly qualities. Last week, we looked at PRISQUILLA [the powercouple name for Priscilla and Aquila] who invested time in the life of others (eg, supporting Paul's ministry, inviting Apollos to their home to explain the gospel to him). Today, it was Obed-Edom (2 Samuel), who led a life pleasing to God. But what I got more out of the message, was the opportunity to compare ourselves with people in the old testament, and reflect on who God is in our lives. Have I been offering God the respect HE commands?
Our pastor shared this excerpt towards the end of sermon today
When John Piper asks the question: what is sin? he is simply seeking to re-direct our attention to what sin really is. You see sin is more than the bad things we do, sin is also the good and precious things we don’t do. What is sin?

The glory of God not honoured; the Holiness of God not reverenced; the greatness of God not admired; the power of God not praised; the truth of God not sought; the wisdom of God not esteemed; the beauty of God not treasured; the goodness of God not savoured; the faithfulness of God not trusted; the commandments of God not obeyed; the justice of God not respected; the wrath of God not feared; the grace of God not cherished; the presence of God not prized; the person of God not loved … that is sin.

how humbling it was to be reminded of how far i am from perfection, to realise how I've been sinning even without realising it.

Rend Your Heart (Joel 2)

12 “Even now,” declares the Lord,
“return to me with all your heart,
with fasting and weeping and mourning.”
13 Rend your heart
    and not your garments.
Return to the Lord your God,
for he is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and abounding in love,
and he relents from sending calamity.
14 Who knows? He may turn and relent
    and leave behind a blessing—
grain offerings and drink offerings
    for the Lord your God.
15 Blow the trumpet in Zion,
    declare a holy fast,
    call a sacred assembly.
16 Gather the people,
    consecrate the assembly;
bring together the elders,
    gather the children,
    those nursing at the breast.
Let the bridegroom leave his room
    and the bride her chamber.
17 Let the priests, who minister before the Lord,
weep between the portico and the altar.
Let them say, “Spare your people, Lord.
Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn,
    a byword among the nations.
Why should they say among the peoples,
    ‘Where is their God?’”

*dictionary.com:
definition of REND
to harrow or distress (the heart) with painful feelings.

He listens, He acts

May your glory shine through, more glorious than the rays of the sun.

Psalm 145

New International Version (NIV)

Psalm 145[a]

A psalm of praise. Of David.

1 I will exalt you, my God the King;
I will praise your name for ever and ever.
2 Every day I will praise you
and extol your name for ever and ever.
3 Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.
4 One generation commends your works to another;
they tell of your mighty acts.
5 They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
and I will meditate on your wonderful works.[b]
6 They tell of the power of your awesome works—
and I will proclaim your great deeds.
7 They celebrate your abundant goodness
and joyfully sing of your righteousness.
8 The Lord is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and rich in love.
9 The Lord is good to all;
he has compassion on all he has made.
10 All your works praise you, Lord;
    your faithful people extol you.
11 They tell of the glory of your kingdom
    and speak of your might,
12 so that all people may know of your mighty acts
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.
The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises
and faithful in all he does.[c]
14 The Lord upholds all who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time.
16 You open your hand
and satisfy the desires of every living thing.
17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways
and faithful in all he does.
18 The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
he hears their cry and saves them.
20 The Lord watches over all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.
21 My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord.
Let every creature praise his holy name
    for ever and ever.

There is Hope

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZLbAYKwpIk&feature=g-vrec

Before the Morning - Josh Wilson

Do you wonder why you have to,
feel the things that hurt you,
if there's a God who loves you,
where is He now?

Maybe, there are things you can't see
and all those things are happening
to bring a better ending
some day, some how, you'll see, you'll see

Chorus:
Would dare you, would you dare, to believe,
that you still have a reason to sing,
'cause the pain you've been feeling,
can't compare to the joy that's coming

so hold on, you got to wait for the light
press on, just fight the good fight
because the pain you've been feeling,
it's just the dark before the morning

My friend, you know how this all ends
and you know where you're going,
you just don't know how you get there
so just say a prayer.
and hold on, cause there's good who love God,
life is not a snapshot, it might take a little time,
but you'll see the bigger picture

Would dare you, would you dare, to believe,
that you still have a reason to sing,
'cause the pain you've been feeling,
can't compare to the joy that's coming

so hold on, you got to wait for the light
[ From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/j/josh-wilson-lyrics/before-the-morning-lyrics.html ]
press on, just fight the good fight
because the pain you've been feeling,
it's just the dark before the morning
yeah, yeah,
before the morning,
yeah, yeah

Once you feel the way of glory,
all your pain will fade to memory
once you feel the way of glory,
all your pain will fade to memory
memory, memory, yeah

Would dare you, would you dare, to believe,
that you still have a reason to sing,
'cause the pain you've been feeling,
can't compare to the joy that's coming

Would dare you, would you dare, to believe,
that you still have a reason to sing,
'cause the pain you've been feeling,
can't compare to the joy that's coming

com'n, you got to wait for the light
press on, just fight the good fight
because the pain you've been feeling,
it's just the hurt before the healing
the pain you've been feeling,
just the dark before the morning
before the morning, yeah, yeah
before the morning

Visions Become Reality

utmost.org (My Utmost for His Highest- by Oswald Chambers)

Visions Become Reality

We always have a vision of something before it actually becomes real to us. When we realize that the vision is real, but is not yet real in us, Satan comes to us with his temptations, and we are inclined to say that there is no point in even trying to continue. Instead of the vision becoming real to us, we have entered into a valley of humiliation.
Life is not as idle ore,
But iron dug from central gloom,
And battered by the shocks of doom
To shape and use.
God gives us a vision, and then He takes us down to the valley to batter us into the shape of that vision. It is in the valley that so many of us give up and faint. Every God-given vision will become real if we will only have patience. Just think of the enormous amount of free time God has! He is never in a hurry. Yet we are always in such a frantic hurry. While still in the light of the glory of the vision, we go right out to do things, but the vision is not yet real in us. God has to take us into the valley and put us through fires and floods to batter us into shape, until we get to the point where He can trust us with the reality of the vision. Ever since God gave us the vision, He has been at work. He is getting us into the shape of the goal He has for us, and yet over and over again we try to escape from the Sculptor’s hand in an effort to batter ourselves into the shape of our own goal.
The vision that God gives is not some unattainable castle in the sky, but a vision of what God wants you to be down here. Allow the Potter to put you on His wheel and whirl you around as He desires. Then as surely as God is God, and you are you, you will turn out as an exact likeness of the vision. But don’t lose heart in the process. If you have ever had a vision from God, you may try as you will to be satisfied on a lower level, but God will never allow it.

My Mustard Seed

I planted some mustard seeds a couple of weeks back and look what's here now! I'm just hoping it's not some random weed that flew into the can...

Matthew 17:14-20 NIV84

When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. “Lord, have mercy on my son,” he said. “He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.”

“O unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.” Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment.

Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn't we drive it out?”

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

The good old days

I want to share this message from Daily Bible Devotion:

Don't long for "the good old days." This is not wise.
Ecclesiastes 7:10, NLT

Have you ever noticed how some memories become sweeter over time? They start off as normal, unglamorous experiences, but the greater the time that has passed the sweeter they become. We sensationalize them even further if our present circumstances aren't going well. It's easy to get caught up in nostalgia and reminisce, but it's dangerous. We risk losing out on the time we have at hand right now. Don't let your current displeasures trick you into recreating "the good old days." Make a change to live for Christ today in this moment. _________________________________

BUBBLES!

Chilly billy

Today is a comfortable day spent in comfy clothes, stuffing down comfort food in the presence of comfortable company.
Brunch with Puan n grace: shared full brekkie with toast dipped in runny egg yolk and a generous amount of butter

Snack: Grace's baked chocolatey goodness with ice cream

Dinner with OT buddies saralee Kelvin Howard: we... finished a box worth of steamboat stuff. Omg. I wasn't even bloated. Bahaha.

But I'm thankful for a day where I'm reminded (again) that I'm so blessed to have family and friends with so much love I don't deserve. For their willingness to head over to my place to eat and hang out to accomodate my assignmenting plans. God's grace.
Now, it's my turn. DO MY BEST!!!!

Food for thought:

嫉妒 (meaning: to be jealous of)
Is it true that only girls get jealous (more often than guys??), hence the Chinese character for 'female' is written in both the words?

Hmm

School Creed

I love how there are so many things that I've come across as a kid which never made sense at that point.. but they are so meaningful and precious now that I have a better understanding. Thank God I have hoarding habits as well as the tendency to dig around the house whenever I return.. so many old treasures to find!
Here is one of them. My primary school creed. I think we used to sing it every week. It is actually a really good song!

I wonder what plans You have for my trip here this time.. but it does seem like some family time. Be glorified and lifted up in our lives, dear Lord, whatever that's supposed to mean.

A queensland experience

I am missing Brisbane and its awesome people already!
What a privilege and blessing to have met great friends.

On another note, jojo porridgebrother loi wen tian you are my darling. Your courage amazes me and it is a gift from God. Be strong in the Lord! Miss youuuuuu <3

Women are complicated beings.
A yes could mean a yes, but a yes could mean a no. A no could mean a no, but a no could mean a yes. It all depends on context and tone, and requires one with strong discerning capabilities to decipher the differences.

Obviously, communication is not my strength. There's an elephant in my room.

Make me an instrument of Your glory

Even without words, looking at this shell made me stand in awe of its brilliant Creator. How intricately designed, even if it might be one of millions on the shore.. it played its part and made a difference in someone's life.
How are we, as children of God, showing the world our Father's love and goodness in our speech and action? We may be small, insignificant and think that we are painfully normal, or totally unworthy to be an instrument of God's  glory. But what are we proclaiming or boasting about? Someone who made skies and seas that take our breaths away. Someone with an extraordinary love for sinners like us. Someone who calls us His children and speaks to us.

(2 Cor 12)

Effort

Back in the days when i just started driving, phones weren't smart enough (or I wasn't smart enough to realise the smartness of a smartphone), GPS were only for the super rich, and the street directory was my best buddy... I took time and effort to plan my directions from place to place. Now it just seems somewhat ridiculous yet amusing. I wonder how cab drivers found their way out after dropping a passenger home... that is real talent...

The Prayer of Freedom

Because holidays are here... I get to continue reading books that I've started months/years ago!

Here's a challenging yet necessary prayer (:

O Jesus, meek and humble of heart, hear me. Deliver me, Jesus,
from the desire of being esteemed,
from the desire of being loved,
from the desire of being extolled,
from the desire of being honored,
from the desire of being praised,
from the desire of being preferred to others,
from the desire of being consulted,
from the desire of being approved,
from the fear of being humiliated,
from the fear of being despised,
from the fear of suffering rebuke,
from the fear of being forgotten,
from the fear of being wronged,
from the fear of being suspected.

And, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire
that others might be loved more than I,
that others may be esteemed more than I,
that in the opinion of the world others may increase and I may decrease,
that others may be chosen, and I set aside,
that others may be praised and I unnoticed,
that others may be preferred to me in everything,
that others may become holier than I, provided that I become as holy as I should

Return to vomit

I want to share this message from Daily Bible Devotion:

As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness. Proverbs 26:11 NLT

Our body vomits when it rejects food. There are habits and behaviors that we form that are not healthy. Even after recognizing the unhealthiness, we still return to those behaviors. A faith with Christ requires us to continually renew and better ourselves. Are there any foolish behaviors you continue to return to even when you have already rejected it?

Good stewardship

I want to share this message from Daily Bible Devotion:

Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip.  He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone. Matthew 25:14 (NLT + more versions)

Have you ever loaned out a tool, your car, or serving platter only to find the item broken, dented, or chipped when it was returned?  This is a reflection of the stewardship of the other person.  If you think about it, God has made us stewards too.  He blesses us with food, shelter, and even relationships.  One day we will have to account for the things God blessed us with.  Are you the person who will return an item in better condition than when you received it?

Oh be careful little lips what you speak

Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen instead of offering the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong. Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.
ecc 5:1-2

Failure VS Detour? A blessing in disguise.

My past two weeks can easily be summed up with one disappointing event- failing block 2 prac.
However, it would not do my weeks or my God justice to assign such an awful description to the whole experience because there's so many things I'm thankful for. It far outweighs the things that upset me because I keep being reminded that I am so blessed.

1. God spoke time and again even before the day of the bad news: be still and know that He is God. He is with me and He is in control, even when I feel like I'm thrown in the flames, the fire will not consume me. The rivers will not drown me. Do not worry. He who watches over the sparrow watches over me.

2. Phonecalls with mum and dad while they were in Singapore. Reminded me how blessed I am to have such loving parents who take time out to talk and make sure I'm OK. We got to talk and laugh and bond through the phonecalls.

3. Friends who pray for me/ encourage me and are so ready to listen and show support .. I feel so blessed and undeserving of all this love!

4. My dad's return in my final week of prac. I was convinced that I would b fine living alone.. but towards the end with the failing prac thing on top of my isolated nature, I must say it was timely moral support and company. Even though placement was 5mins free bus ride away, I got driven to and picked up from prac everyday hahaha.

5. My birthday - I'm so limited with my vocabulary... yes I know u know.. I feel so blessed haha. And undeserving of very kind friends/family. Even though it was a day of placement and school and studies, I was fortunate to have dinner with dad and have some ocfers pop by for a surprise visit! I miss having ocfers at my house!

6. Supportive supervisors and fieldwork coordinators. Even though it was a fail grade, I'm fortunate to have had my placement experience, to have met my super patient supervisors from whom I've learnt much. Also patients I've met and skills I've picked up have been a great gift. (And I get to do 7 more weeks of placement for free!! Aka supplementary placement hahaha) and my sups were so kind to request for the fieldwork coordinator to let me continue with goglobal Cambodia placement :D

:D I guess that's why I really think I'm OK. Haha. Plus I'm looking forward to my upcoming break!!! Excitezzz!!

Tough times in life have never been my favourite periods.. ever..
Yet, I can't deny God's blessings and causes for joy in the midst of these challenges.
Thank You Lord, for people who know me better than myself. My extra sets of eyes where my blindspots are located. They vocalise what my mind tries to hide under covers. I choose to think and tell myself that I'm solid like a brick, but really, I'm just a pavlova...seeking comfort from my parents' counsel.
What does it mean to not worry? Have I truly truly surrendered my life to Christ? If so, why worry?

I want to share this message from Daily Bible Devotion: When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, "I tell you the truth, I haven't seen faith like this in all Israel!" Matthew 8:10, NLT What an honor it is to impress Jesus with your faith. But faith means believing in Jesus beyond human reason. Are you keeping your faith separate from your struggles in life? Invite Him in. Rituals and obligation do not amaze Jesus. Instead, it's trusting Jesus with your problems, asking for His help, and believing He will provide. Get this Free Daily Devotion App: ANDROID: http://bit.ly/pE4x0C IPHONE: http://bit.ly/uJvpEW

I don't know about tomorrow, I just live from day to day. I don't borrow from it's sunshine, For it's skies may turn to gray. I don't worry o'er the future, For I know what Jesus said, And today I'll walk beside Him, For He knows what is ahead.

Many things about tomorrow, I don't seem to understand; But I know Who holds tomorrow, And I know Who holds my hand.

Ev'ry step is getting brighter, As the golden stairs I climb; Ev'ry burden's getting lighter; Ev'ry cloud is silver lined. There the sun is always shining, There no tear will dim the eyes, At the ending of the rainbow, Where the mountains touch the sky.

Many things about tomorrow, I don't seem to understand; But I know Who holds tomorrow, And I know Who holds my hand.

I don't know about tomorrow, It may bring me poverty; But the One Who feeds the sparrow, Is the One Who stands by me. And the path that be my portion, May be through the flame or flood, But His presence goes before me, And I'm covered with His blood.

Many things about tomorrow, I don't seem to understand; But I know Who holds tomorrow, And I know Who holds my hand.

Let your words be few

Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen instead of offering the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong. Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few. ecc 5:1-2

My mum as been acting weirdly lately. Here are some of the things she's been repeating to me these days:

1. Are you at home alone?
2. Are you eating dinner alone? Again?
3. Seriously you need to be more active with your social life..you have to take initiative.. dear..
4. Watch your waistline. Have more veg and fruits
5. (i told her i was teaching in church) ok dating all the 4 and 5 years old.. remember to start dating the right age group (to which i responded.. they are 2 and 3 years old, and we are holding hands. HURHUR)
6. No social life for you? need to arrange matchmaking soon (-.-|||).. like the Korean mum.. but Jodie might bring back a Japanese boyfriend anytime now which is another worry

I shouldnt have shared with them my excitement about Conzy being pregnant... unnecessary baggage came along with it :(

On another note, I've limited myself to fb on Tue, Thu and Sat only. I think I have withdrawal symptoms now....

My security guard doing her rounds. Hired by my neighbours. Doing a good job of keeping baddies away I must say!

Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

Psalm 139:23-24

Easter Camp 2012.
Theme: Higher | Deeper | Stronger

Thank you Father for your cannot-be-better-timed reminder. A call to surrender my cares and concerns, trusting in Your faithfulness, grace and deliverance. Although it wasn't a quick decision to make at the  beginning to attend camp, I've been blessed abundantly. Thank you God for loving a sinner like me.

Eventful april fools weekend

My eventful weekend began with bible study on Friday about being united as the body of Christ.
A wonderful sleep in Saturday morning, opportunity to clean my room. It looks slightly more decent now.... but I probably shifted the mess to jodie's room temporarily.. EXCO meeting, Subi service about God's big partyyyyyyy - everyone's invited!, movie screening/Easter camp fundraiser: Courageous. It's a must watch ((: brief catch-up with glennapoopoo, headed home.
Attempted to make soy milk. All was good aside from it being a bit bland so I added a bit of brown sugar from the sugar shaker which was kinda congested, so I took the container of white sugar and poured a generous amount in because I'm so good at estimation.. next thing I knEw, I was spitting out a mouthful of salty soy milk :(((( WHYYYYYYY... MY SWEAT AND BLOOD... All that effort of pouring water onto the beans and pouring the beans into the soy machine, filtering the pulp out of the liquid..... FOR SALTY SOY MILK????!!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!? So I slept my frustration away.
This morning, jumped out of bed to zoom to work to realise that they had not put my name on the roster. I was happy though. Nice and relaxing morning, lovely time of reading the papers for the first time in 2012 in a cafe in cottesloe so I'm a little bit updated on what's happening in Australia. More time to talk to God!
Thank you Lord (:

Outward marks are often deceptive. The clever Christian,  the one who excels in fluent praying or vigorous preaching, or the one who can answer all theological questions, is not necessarily a disciple. Nor is it necessarily the one who has sold everything, down to the last shirt, in an act of "true discipleship." These things of themselves do not draw us close to God.  But God draws near, the scripture says,  "into them that are of a broken heart, and saveth them that are of a contrite spirit."

Hunger for reality, George Verwer.

Goodbyes are painful, but God's plans are definitely good. May He continue the good work started in you all and may His joy overflow in your lives. Run the race and fight the fight as faithful servants. Please don't leave the faith.
Much love.

God has been so good to me, I need to write this down so I don't forget.

I am thankful that I did not get the job at catch music, turned down the job at subway (and if i got turned down for any other jobs that i applied for along the way, I also thank God for those)
I am thankful that I didn't get those jobs because I got to work in Rocky Bay as a disability support worker! Not saying that those jobs are bad or what, but Rocky Bay was instrumental in helping me with familiarising with working with people with disabilities and communicating, which is a big thing for me as I'm usually quite reserved. And all these skills are relevant to my future work as an occupational therapist, which is evident now at placement! I don't have to worry as much about getting nervous talking to patients/ building rapport because the worrying has been done and dealt with last year :D

I am thankful that even though I never exactly did too well and on a couple of events failed my units, I knew that Occupational Therapy was the course I wanted to do and that I would not choose any other course, which of course did a great deal in helping me keep doing what I was doing. I'm thankful for Glenna my mentor.. part of the reason why I knew that OT existed. The other part would obviously be God being the silent hand guiding my life path even before I knew what it meant to surrender my life decisions to Him.

I am thankful that even though I haven't been the brightest nor the most diligent student, probably best described as passive, slow, sleepy, like a fly on the wall that hands in late assignments that makes her parents go crazy, this placement year, the year that i've been looking forward to since first year, albeit draining, has been met with many encouragements. My beautifully spaced out placements: Block 1 and 2, break on block 3, then Block 4 and 5, viva, block 6 off (which means early end to my uni life!). My wonderful range of placement types - cognitive rehab, home rehab, paeds and disability in resource poor environment: Cambodia, mental health. They are good to transition from block 1 to the last placement block as the first one is well known to be easy going and cruisy, and that prepared me for my current hospital placement which isn't as demanding as expected since im in the home rehab team. I thank God for my pleasant supervisors in my previous and current placements and sweet and wonderful clients/patients that have been very kindly responsive to me.

I thank God that despite my busyness and inadequacy, God still takes care of me and has proved it to me through positive and encouraging feedback. And as Aunty M prayed for me tonight, one thing that I should really learn is to know what I need to hold on tight to when I feel out of whack. My time with God has been greatly compromised, and it has been a trend whenever I get busy. How am I trusting God with my time and my life when I am refusing to let go of my own control? Aren't I just being a great big hypocrite?

take my advice.
DO NOT volunteer for things you are not keen/have no time to do in the first place.
maannnnn why was i so geh kiang )):

NO TURNING BACK, NO TURNING BACK

oh assignments... can't wait for that day to bid farewell to you.

I realised how unfit I've become in my recent jogs with my dad (probably 1 or 2  times in the past 3 months. 1 other time was cycling hahahah). it becomes a brisk walk and then unconsciously a stroll within less than 10 minutes.

here i was, alive and kicking with energy to bite that strap and show some teeth after running 12 km, in 2010.
Contemplating if I should do that again, but anyhows for a start, i'm finding thirty each day of my placement and walking home! LIKE A TRUE BLUE AUNTIE, I SHALL POWER WALK MY WAY HOME.

Before I lay me down to rest
I ask the Lord one small request
I know I have all I could need
But this prayer is not for me
Too many people on this day
Don't have a peaceful place to stay
Let all fighting cease that your children may see peace
Wipe their tears of sorrow away

(chorus)
To believe in a day
When hunger and war will pass away
To have the hope amidst despair
That every sparrow's counted
That you hear each cry and listen to each prayer

Let me try always to believe
That we can hear the hearts that grieve
Please help us not ignore
The anguished cries of the poor
Or their pain will never leave

(chorus )
To believe in a day
When hunger and war will pass away
To have the hope amidst despair
That every sparrow's counted
That you hear their cries and listen to each prayer

(spoken prayer)
Father, as you see, I'm just a child
And there's so much to understand
But if Your Grace should surround me
Then I'll do the best I can
I promise, I'll do the very best I can

(chorus plus)
To believe in a day
When hunger and war will pass away
To have the hope amidst despair
That every sparrow's counted
That you hear each cry and listen to each
Prayer {Hear each cry and listen to each prayer}
Help us do Your will oh Father
In the name of all that's true
And we'll see in one another
The loving image of You

where's our confidence?
where do we pin our hopes?
how will you respond if one moment you are successful, independent, able-bodied
... and the next moment, a brain injury causes you to have so much difficulty in reading and writing, or even just taking pills out of a container?
will you still have hope?
where will you find your hope?
what will be your source of pride?

Morning shenanigans outside my window..
Introducing... the floating tree cutting man!

I don't know how to rotate photos when I blog on my phone :/

Since Cambodia and that 'underage' video about young male prostitutes in thailand I saw from fb, I've been made aware of the comfort, bliss and security that I have been born and brought up in. None of these I have earned for myself .. our stable lives are a result of sacrifices made by our parents and their parents and their parents etc. Partly by chance too that we were born in a developed country, in a time of peace, no war..
I don't know what to feel when I witness people homeless, struggling to keep their family alive, worrying about living expenses and school fees, working hard.. while here I am, just soaking in all the comforts life can offer.. I feel guilty that I'm materially well off - I don't need to worry about eating or finding shelter. I travel in the holidays.
But I hope now that I'm made aware, I don't live like I don't know or I don't care. Because I don't deserve any of these comforts more than them. Maybe that is what it means to be a body of Christ.. we have been blessed materially so that we can bless others with physical needs. What have I been doing with my material blessings other than stuffing myself with food.. taking long hot showers.. sitting in front of the computer the whole day and getting sleepy??

I miss Cambodia!

Mission trip day 1.

A whole day's worth of car ride - endless honking, weaving through motorbikes and oncoming traffic, more honking, squeezing many cars onto a road with no lane markings... I have evolved from a screaming, claustrophobic passenger who cringes when the proximity of cars are comparable to the length of my wrist to elbow, to a calm n cool cucumber who likens the car honking to ringing the bicycle bell and has great respect for our driver, who was focused and responsibly honking the entire journey while the rest of us slept soundly.

A visit to the mass genocide museum introduced us to a dark and recent history of the nation. It was heartbreaking to witness the cruelty and evil that can be birthed by man to be used against man - young/old/male/female- innocent souls tortured till death all because of greed and hunger for power. It was ugly. The absence of knowledge of the Father's love and judgement has the potential for such monstrous acts. It scares me to know how one man's decision may cause suffering to millions. How heartbreaking it must have been for God to see His creation belittling the lives which His hands have sculpted. My only comfort was the knowledge that God loves the world, sending Jesus Christ to die for the hideous acts we've done, bearing the burden and consequences of our sins. He has promised us forgiveness and hope of salvation if we believe in Jesus Christ.

My favourite part of the day was debriefing n devotion at night. For the first time we were able to share with one another beyond hellos and goodbyes and meaningless small talk as a team. We shared our reasons for coming on this trip, went through some dos and donts of mission trips and were reminded that we have been saved by grace from God and not by anything we have done. Praise the Lord for bringing us from different stages of life to one location, with one vision and one God. Looking forward to more great experiences (:
