ozzie ozzie ozzie...
everytime i look back and think about how far i've come,
i really thank God for making this wonderful choice.
sending me to perth. =)
where i take a leap to independence.
but i wasnt thrown to the deep end like others.
my dad's here. which is good in a way..
im so much luckier than the other boarders.
i have someone to drive me around,
someone to bring me to places with nice food
someone to bring me to ballet lessons and bible studies.
someone to bring me out on weekends, where i can taste some real authentic asian food.
someone to teach me driving
and of course many more.. too much to list down.
coming to Perth has given me many new challenges and experiences.
like entering a world of animosity; you are an alien in this strange land.
but God has given me courage to step out of my little bubble,
to mingle with new people, forming new friendships..
at the beginning, it felt so weird mixing around with the uni people seriously speaking..
all my life, i've been spending all my time around ppl my age..
my schoolmates, balletmates, churchmates...
but putting me in this new environment has taught me that...
THOSE UNI STUDENTS ARE STILL VERY CHILDISH
hahaha. ok not very childish. young at heart ok? heehee
and the Ozzies... well what can i say..
mozzies do bite but ozzies dont.
in general the ozzies are more...sociable.
they dont get too caught up with their own lives..
they smile they wave and ask u how you doing.
placing me, and asian, here in perth,
means that im a minority in school.
i've learnt many things from it too...
i've learnt to feel how the newbies must feel.. apprehensive? nervous? frightened?
i've learnt to feel how the lonely ones must feel.. unnaccepted? unloved? different?
i've learnt to feel how it feels to be different.. being an asian in a western world..
i've learnt to feel how it is being away from home..
now when i think about my life in cedar back home,
i have been pretty selfish, too comfy and too caught up with my own life to stop and think for others.
' are the china PRC scholars settling alright? do they enjoy school? do they need help with anything?' ' should i have recess with that girl sitting alone over there?' 'maybe i should mix around more with the malays and indians as well...'
if i ever go back to sec school or jc in singapore now, these thoughts may probably come to me. just because i've been in their situation.
if i've never been put here, will i ever spare a thought for how they feel?
will i even know that people out there need more attention and love?
coming here also allowed me to discover my interests and brush up on skills.
like... actually, cooking is fun!
i never really enjoyed home ec. maybe it was the fierce teacher.. maybe it was too theoratical.
but i've been cooking almost everyday this holiday..
i will make a very fine wife i tell you. HEHE
i also like photography and music!
where did that i-hate-going-for-piano-lessons-and-music-lessons-jeannie go?
i dunno.. haha. i still hate piano lessons.
i took up piano lessons for my own enjoyment, in the end it killed my interests bcuz it seemed like im learning so i can pass piano exams.. NO THANKS.
anyway, coming here opened doors for me to perform, not only as a group, but individually as well.
just standing in front of many many eyes already freaks me out.
but God gave me chances to accompany aliya's singing by playing the piano with my half-way-there skills, to sing in large audiences with my barely-audible-silent-whispers
what is there to boast about those 'skills'? nothing at all. embarrassing moments.
they cant even be called skills really. hobby maybe. but im glad im not good.
im thankful for my half-way-there skills.. for if they were perfect and all,
what would i be? bigheaded, complacent, thinking i am the best...forgetting about God?
so im glad that while im still immature in spirit, God has given me plenty and plenty of room for improvement, that i may remain humbled and know that He is the ultimate in charge.
i remember the first few weeks i was here, i kept telling myself..
'God has a reason for placing you here. You may not know it yet, but u will know it some time.'
He has placed me here to mould me and refine me in all kinds of ways, so that from that worthless looking piece of carbon, i'll become more and more like Him, that shiny precious gem. =D

fishy bookmark from OCF just now. it says
' Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish. JOHN 6:9'
remember this: although what you have to offer may seem small, in the hands of the almighty God, it becomes big. like the boy's five small barley loaves and two small fish, in Christ's hands, fed thousands of people till they were full, and 12 baskets of leftovers mind you!
AMAZING. simply amazing x)
i love OCF. i love the people in OCF. it's like home... listening to singlish gives me a sense of homeliness. i wonder what OCF would be like when im in uni and all the old people have graduated and gone back home.. =( i'll be the old one then. x(( that means i've got to cherish the time when im young. HEHEHE. bully the old people more! haha no la. i never bully you guys rite...*bats eyelids and tries to look innocent*
