im glad to be back in Perth though. Away from the hustle and bustle of city life.. toned down with regards to materialism marketing efforts and self image advertisements, being with the fellowship... It is full on, but a different kind of full on.. God's been teaching me a lot of how I should spend time praying and reading His word in order to get to know Him. Just like how you do with any other person. Time spent with God is often the first item that gets pushed off the list when something else comes along... One main goal/resolution for 2010 is to invest in time spent with God. How else can we know the One who created us and loves us and wants to have a relationship with us? through episodes of drama serials? through nights of partying? through studying and working?

Feels like I've just hopped onto a bullet train since I landed in Perth. Oday1, meet-ups, church, oday uwa, oday2, followup, retreat planning, retreat, kids ministry, dinners, school, sorting out mails, being a tour guide, BABABABABA. It's so exciting though when you see the fruits of the labour and God's abundant blessings in the areas you serve in, when you hear words of encouragement that makes you want to praise God even more. :D

Good first day of 3rd year uni :D i got my unit outlines, lec notes and tute notes printed, did part of my reading, wrote down my assignment due dates.. IM ALL SET FOR UNI! NO MORE FAILS! HD HERE I COME!

no more late nights! 12.30am bedtime!!

change my heart O God

make it ever true

change my heart O God

may I be like You

was looking at my blogger username: "my heart belongs to Jesus!"

It got me thinking.. did I write that because I saw it somewhere and thought it was cool? Does my heart really belong to Jesus? It is a good reminder nevertheless. Where is my heart? How do my actions show where my heart is? How do my words show where my heart is? How do my thoughts show where my heart is? How does my time spent daily show where my heart is?

Why Jesus?

He demonstrated true sacrificial love by dying for our sins on the cross. yours and mine. He rose again three days later, proving that death has been defeated by Him. When all else fades and fails, He is unchanging and when we fail, believe it or not, He loves us all the same. And He's redeemed us already.

where is your heart?

Saw maxwin and his friends do a cover of OneRepublic-All the Right Moves on facebook. The first line is originally "all the right friends in all the right places" but I think i heard it as "all the right friends in all the wrong places".
Sometimes life does feel like that though. I have all the right friends.. friends that are so loving and generous, friends who walk the extra mile because they care.. but they are in the wrong places... or should I say, I keep changing places so there's always the hurt from separations. leaving Singapore to study in Perth, leaving Perth for holiday in Singapore, leaving OCF UWA to join OCF Curtin, watching friends i've grown to love graduate and return home to whichever countries they came from, not knowing if I'll ever see them again in my lifetime. It hurts.
Thank God that He is omnipresent, that He can be everywhere at every moment. I can find comfort in knowing that He's with my family and friends even when He's with me.

1 Corinthians 2

1When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.[a] 2For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. 4My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, 5so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power.

Wisdom From the Spirit

6We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7No, we speak of God's secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him"[b]— 10but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.[c] 14The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment: 16"For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?"[d] But we have the mind of Christ.
don't know why but i don't have the urge to blog these days. don't really know what to write about. is this a growing up thing or something... haha. I was just thinking about my current term in the LC and how much I've learnt through lessons and people that God's placed in my life. I know God didn't choose me to lead because I had awesome leadership qualities. I am fully aware of my sloppiness and half-hearted endeavours, my bad habit of being late and lack of perseverance.. the list goes on but it's not the point I'm trying to make. I am still learning and feeling my way around. God's moulding me through circumstances, opening my eyes to His bigger plan, humbling me time and again in view of His sovereignty and grace.
time in Singapore's running out.. on one hand, i think it'll be difficult to leave. on the other, i'm looking forward to the programs of the semester ahead :D Looking forward to knowing God more!

dear God,

help me listen to Your small still voice. Maybe its making the extra effort to wake up early. Maybe its seeking You in the wee hours of the night. Maybe its pushing aside appointments and computer to wait upon You. Help me listen and discern. Help me be humble and follow Your calling.

In Christ's most precious name,
Amen

how scary is it that while hundreds of thousands of individuals on one side of the world suffers from massive destruction, pain, loss, hopelessness, hunger, hurt, chaos, darkness, here i am sitting comfortably on my couch smelling nice from my bath, surfing the net, blogging, drinking a cup of carrot juice, chatting, laughing with my sister and thinking of how im going to holland v to meet my friends tomorrow night...

while orphans as young as 15months old are given numbers instead of names and health providers have no idea what to do with them seeing that there's lots more victims requiring attention, here i am, complaining that my dad is annoying whenever he comes to sayang me, being sulky when my parents get overprotective and don't allow me to go learn diving..

how often do we actually think about whether the Haitians need help and how we can play our part? how is it that we can remain emotionally ignorant to their plight when they're at their greatest need.. instead, being caught up with trivial matters of life? while they struggle to survive, we stuff ourselves silly with breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and supper, complaining that we've eaten too much/put on too much weight...

even as efforts turn towards aid and rescue, it is evident that man are all imperfect and incapable of creating foolproof solutions. there's a limit to what each of us can do.. but remember Christ who has been jealously guarding our relationship with Him. Christ who died for us out of love, Christ who heals and reconciles, Christ the Prince of Peace, above all powers. As we admit the powerlessness of mankind, let's commit the lives of the Haitians to God in prayer, because we know that He is far greater than any power in this world, and He's always been listening (:

Lord, have mercy on us!

today's devotion reminded me to "Guard jealously my relationship with God"- it implies an almost possesive nature, taking ownership, consciously spending effort protecting it. the past few days saw myself leaving home early in the day and coming home late at night. while meeting up with friends and entertaining visitors may be necessary it wore me out a little and i think it did affect my relationship with God. it's in these small, subtle and harmless ways that one gets tempted and drift away from God.. being caught up with fun activities or even commitments.
how often can i say that i've guarded my relationship with God well enough? it's so easy to push Him out of my life when there seems to be more exciting things to do, to treat the time spent with Him as another item on my to-do list only to be ticked off after everything else gets done. in what way is this committing my days to His plans?
1 Peter 4:7 The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.
we have somehow become immune to God's miracles in life. the sun rising every morning, the rainbow that comes after the rain, the seed which blooms into a flower, a marriage that lasts for decades, a newborn baby, breathing even when you're sleeping, growing up... how often do we remember God's hand in all these things? He's constantly been guarding our relationship with Him jealously... even to the extent of sending His only beloved Son as an atonement sacrifice for our sins. when will we begin to reciprocate?

i always find it difficult to explain occupational therapy to people. found this on the curtin website

Occupational therapists are well placed to make a huge impact on the world – are you up for the challenge? As an occupational therapist you will have a range of skills and knowledge that can be applied in many settings. Many occupational therapists work with the health, disability and education sectors but more work with industry and charitable organisations.
As an occupational therapist you could be working with individuals who have experienced a stroke or have depression, or a child with autism and his family. You could also work with a person who is homeless, a refugee or asylum seeker.
When you graduate you will be working with individuals, families, groups of people or perhaps whole communities. You could even work in government or large organisations, influencing policy. Opportunities are limitless, which is what makes occupational therapy such a great profession.
Wherever you work and whoever you work with you will be finding ways to support people to achieve and maintain health by helping them engage in the everyday activities of their life – showering, working in a mine, or even skydiving. To enable people to participate in their chosen activities you will consider their abilities, the physical, social and legal environments, and the type of activities they want to perform. You will work with the person to find a solution that meets their needs and make it happen.
This course will give you a broad introduction to occupational therapy theory and practice through coursework, practical experience and a whole year of placements in the field with occupational therapists. You will also study a range of units in topics such as health science communication, human biology, psychology, disability, clinical medicine, gerontology, psychiatry, mental health, environmental and cultural determinants of health, and counselling.

1 John 4
7Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son[b] into the world that we might live through him. 10This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for[c] our sins. 11Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
13We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 14And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. 16And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. 17In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him. 18There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
19We love because he first loved us. 20If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. 21And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.
